Paul Maarschalk BA; Hons. B.Compt.; CPA,CA; CBV

Paul_Maarschalk_BIOPaul has had many financial roles during his career but is now solely focused on business valuations. Valuations are usually for one of three possible purposes:

Litigation support (shareholder disputes, marital dissolution under Family Law, spousal and child support)

Transaction planning (sale and purchase, admission of new shareholders, employee share plans)

Corporate restructuring (tax and transition planning)

Paul’s interaction with the client is usually, but not necessarily, through the client’s lawyer, accountant, tax adviser, or transaction adviser.

Paul has been a Chartered Accountant (a designation now known in Canada as Chartered Professional Accountant) since qualifying with Ernst & Young (Zimbabwe office) in 1986 and a Chartered Business Valuator since 2007.

Paul’s business valuations skills are built on both his education and his varied career, which has largely focused on corporate finance and corporate financial planning, disciplines that, like business valuations, require an ability to project forward and understand business risk.

Paul has worked as a CFO in Canadian and international companies in financial services, value added agriculture, mining, mineral exploration, marketing and software and as a corporate finance specialist in corporate banking. He has also consulted to all levels of business, from privately owned start ups to publicly traded corporations and covered a wide range of industries from traditional manufacturing to modern technology and knowledge based firms.

Paul immigrated to Canada from Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) in 2001 and became a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2003 and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators in 2007.

Paul established Maarschalk Valuations Inc (MVI) in 2008 to concentrate his advisory work on business valuations. He had previously spent six years with The Bridge Consulting Group and Meyers Norris Penney LLP, a mid sized Canadian national accounting and advisory firm. In 2011 he established Adastra Corporate Finance as a division of MVI to address a range of corporate finance needs for clients.

Between January 2008 and January 2014 Paul spent part of his time as the Chief Financial Officer of Solomon Resources Ltd, now known as Damara Gold Corp, a mining exploration company listed on the TSX-V (DMR). From 2009 to 2011 Paul was also part-time CFO for Enquiro Search Solutions Inc, a Kelowna based B2B digital marketing agency , which was sold during his tenure as CFO to the Yellow Media Group (Toronto Stock Exchange ticker: Y).

Paul is active in the Rotary Club of Kelowna Ogopogo (President – 2007/08), the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, and other business related community groups. He served on the Advisory Board of the Economic Development Commission of the Central Okanagan from 2009 to 2015 and Chaired the Board in 2014. Paul lives and works in Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia but is able to travel as client needs require.

Paul is pleased to support Brain Trust Canada through regular participation in their annual Paddle for Prevention fundraiser.
