Maarschalk Valuations Inc. was founded in 2008 by Paul Maarschalk BA, CPA, CA, CBV to focus on business valuation services.
MVI has completed numerous valuation assignments, ranging from marital and shareholder disputes to buy/sell agreements and corporate reorganizations in a wide variety of industries, across Central and Western Canada, with a focus on British Columbia and Alberta.
MVI relies on Paul’s experience (30+ years in the financial services industry) and financial acumen in providing an objective and insightful approach to all its engagements and aims to deliver well articulated reports that explain in plain English the key assumptions and processes that contribute to the valuation conclusion.
MVI’s interaction with the client is usually, but not necessarily, through the client’s lawyer, accountant, tax adviser, or transaction adviser.
Paul has been qualified as an expert witness in the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
The two words that are most commonly used by MVI clients to describe our services are “thorough” and “professional.” We appreciate this feedback, as it validates the values we aspire to: objective, insightful, and articulate.
Paul Maarschalk
Paul has been a Chartered Business Valuator since 2007 and a Chartered Professional Accountant since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young (Zimbabwe office) in 1986.
Paul’s business valuations skills are built on both his education and his 30 years of experience in the financial industry. He comes from a varied career, focused on corporate finance and corporate financial planning, disciplines that, like business valuations, require an ability to project forward and understand business risk.
Past Experience
Paul has worked as a CFO in Canadian and international companies in financial services, value added agriculture, mining, mineral exploration, marketing and software and as a corporate finance specialist in corporate banking. He has also consulted to all levels of business, from privately owned start ups to publicly traded corporations and covered a wide range of industries from traditional manufacturing to modern technology and knowledge based firms.
Between January 2008 and January 2014 Paul spent part of his time as the Chief Financial Officer of Solomon Resources Ltd, now known as Damara Gold Corp, a mining exploration company listed on the TSX-V (DMR).
From 2009 to 2011 Paul was also part-time CFO for Enquiro Search Solutions Inc, a Kelowna based B2B digital marketing agency, which was sold during his tenure as CFO to the Yellow Media Group (Toronto Stock Exchange ticker: Y).
He had previously spent six years with The Bridge Consulting Group and Meyers Norris Penney LLP, a mid sized Canadian national accounting and advisory firm. Before moving to Canada in 2001 he worked in the corporate finance and risk departments of a major merchant bank in Zimbabwe.

Values
MVI strives to implement and maintain three core attributes throughout all its work. MVI aims to be:
Objective
Objectivity is at the heart of all the work MVI does, whether for an expert report for a court, or for a client looking to sell his or her business. This is the reason MVI gets hired: to provide an independent, unbiased opinion to enable clear decision making.
Insightful
MVI’s principal brings 30+ years of experience in various financial roles. Prior to specialising as a business valuator, Paul guided private and public companies in their financial reporting, helped both large and small corporations with their financial forecasting and analysed and reported on business risks in numerous industries for lenders and investors. The formalised valuation reporting Paul has been involved with since 2008, as well as ongoing research and continuous improvement, has further refined his ability to get to the heart of the key value drivers: projected future outcomes and risk related fair returns.
Articulate
MVI believes that all reports should, as far as possible, make sense in every respect to the users for whom they are prepared. While MVI recognizes that many clients are only really interested in the final conclusion of value, we also believe that the full rationale for all aspects of the conclusion should be available in plain English.
Community Involvement
Paul is active in the Rotary Club of Kelowna Ogopogo (President – 2007/08), the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, and other business related community groups. He served on the Advisory Board of the Economic Development Commission of the Central Okanagan from 2009 to 2015 and Chaired the Board in 2014.
Paul is pleased to support Brain Trust Canada through regular participation in their annual Paddle for Prevention fundraiser.
Paul lives and works in Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia but is able to travel as client needs require.
Ryan Maarschalk
Ryan Maarschalk is a CBV candidate and provides support to MVI on an as-needed basis.
Ryan obtained his CPA designation in 2015 while with Crowe Mackay LLP in Kelowna. In addition to his valuations and accounting training, Ryan brings to MVI his perspective as a founder of two companies and as the contract CFO for several more. These roles have provided Ryan with solid experience with exits, mergers, and corporate capitalizations (he has raised over $50M for the companies he has worked directly with), all of which require negotiations on value and price. Ryan’s entrepreneurial nature and financial acumen allow him to understand and manage risks and opportunities in a way that’s on point, professional and yet refreshing.
